Services

Roon is enabled by default in Verox. The Services tab lets you enable and configure additional streaming protocols alongside it.

Note

Only enable services you actually plan to use.

Convenience Switching

Verox supports Convenience Switching for Roon, UPnP Bridge, UPnP/DLNA, AirPlay, Squeezebox, Verox Spinner, and Spotify Connect: press play on any of these services and the currently active one is automatically paused (or stopped) so the new one can claim the audio output. There’s no need to manually stop the previous service or wait around for the device to free up.

Note

Convenience Switching only works when your device has a single DAC (audio output). If you have multiple DACs attached, each service can claim its own output independently, so Verox can’t determine which one should be paused or stopped.

A Convenience Switching toggle at the top of the Services tab lets you turn this behavior off entirely. Turn it off if you run multiple services on separate DACs and don’t want them to interrupt each other.

Two services need a small one-time setup step before Convenience Switching works for them:

  • Roon — enable External Source Control for your target zone and select the Verox Extension.
  • HQPlayer NAA — enable remote access.

Controlled by Roon

Squeezebox, AirPlay, and HQPlayer NAA can each also be reached directly from within Roon (Roon supports the Squeezebox protocol natively, can drive HQPlayer directly, or you may route a Roon zone over AirPlay). In that case, enable the Controlled by Roon toggle on that service’s settings page. This tells Convenience Switching that Roon owns the audio output for that path, so the service won’t try to displace Roon when Roon itself starts playing through it.

Tip

Only enable Controlled by Roon if you’re actually routing that service’s audio through Roon. If you use the service independently (e.g. an independent LMS client, or an iPhone streaming via AirPlay) keep this toggle disabled so it switches normally.

Available services

  • UPnP Bridge — bridge a UPnP device into Roon via the Squeezebox protocol
  • UPnP/DLNA — stream to Verox from any UPnP/DLNA controller
  • AirPlay — stream from Apple devices
  • Spotify Connect — stream directly from the Spotify app
  • Squeezebox — connect to a Lyrion Music Server
  • HQPlayer NAA — use Verox as an HQPlayer Network Audio Adapter endpoint
  • Verox Spinner — multi-room audio via Sendspin, Music Assistant’s native protocol
